What this consultation offers

This is a private hour for an employee who wants to understand their position — regarding unrecorded overtime, a proposed transfer, non-renewal of a fixed-term contract, or how a resignation might be treated — before deciding what, if anything, to do. We explain what the position is and what routes exist, including routes that do not involve a dispute.

Recognising the situation

A notice about a transfer, a contract that may not be renewed, or overtime that never quite matches your own records — these situations often arrive without a clear sense of what your options actually are. It is common to sit with the uncertainty for weeks simply because the next step is unclear.

How the hour is spent

We ask you to describe the situation and share any documents you have. From there, we explain the employer's likely position, your position as the employee, and where the law places the boundary between them. No course of action is recommended unless you ask us directly what we would suggest.

The position panel

Employer's position, generally

What an employer is typically permitted to do in situations of this kind, and under what conditions.

Employee's position, generally

What protections and options are typically available to the employee in the same circumstance.

Where the law draws the line

The boundary between the two positions, stated as plainly as the circumstances allow.

Before you come in: a record checklist

Gathering a few documents in advance makes the hour more useful. A short, printable list is provided ahead of the consultation, and typically includes:

The investment

¥10,500

Covers one hour, held at the Kyoto office or online, plus a written summary and the record checklist. No further work is proposed unless you raise it.

A note of reassurance

Many consultations end with the employee deciding no further action is needed once their position is clearer. That is a perfectly reasonable outcome, and not one we treat as incomplete.
